With reference to Scott Cantrell's review of the Russian program at the Meyerson Symphony Center ["Russian roulette," GuideLive, Oct. 8]: In my 35 years of going to the symphony and opera, it was one of the most positive responses from an audience I've seen, yet Mr. Cantrell degrades it as "Russian roulette" and "schlocky" and "wimpy orchestra." He wrote "it DID go on beyond 10:30," but he neglected to say a reason for that was the very enthusiastic audience response generated three encores, plus they were very generous in bringing a top singer, a chorus and an orchestra and performing beautifully for us for two hours. He continued with such technical terms as "Russian choral music has all those block chords and no counterpoint" and the singer "kept ending phrases on the sharp side of pitches."... He often writes as if he's writing for music professors. Is he trying to show how much more he knows about music than the audience?
